The Tribes of Jharkhand
This website is an individual effort to highlight the beauty and rich tribal heritage in the state of Jharkhand. The state, established in the year 2000 is a relatively young one, but the tribal culture and customs it nurtures is as old as man himself. The history of Jharkhand has held significance from the ancient era till the present day. The indigenous people of Jharkhand have contributed to history through their art form, culture, and social movements. These tribes have played a vital role in some of the most crucial periods of national histories, such as the First War of Independence (1857). Jharkhand has always had a diverse culture and heritage that is worth knowing. The 32 tribes of the state have their unique customs and traditions that teach mankind how to live in peace and harmony, to coexist with nature with its fragile yet important ecosystem. This website tries to talk about some of these aspects of tribal life - from its history, culture, and cuisines.
Shivam Joshi, Author
"Born and raised in Jharkhand, I was always astounded by the beautiful, untouched natural landscapes of the state. Intrigued by the culture of the tribals, and their utmost respect for nature and the environment, I wanted to highlight some of the facts and tales of Jharkhand for the 'others' to read. While many know about the rich mineral deposits and related industries in the state, very few non-residents of Jharkhand are aware of its culture and heritage. My website may not do justice to the real beauty and culture of the state, but it is, nonetheless, a genuine attempt to create more awareness about the tribes of Jharkhand."
